Rod and Penny go to Blackpool

Strictly Come Dancing fans might want to slip a sick bag down the side of the sofa in preparation for this weekend’s show. The BBC has confirmed that Penny Lancaster will return to the show to perform with professional dancer Matthew Cutler – while her old man Rod belts out a version of ‘Same Old Song’.

“Penny is really excited,” said a source at the show. “She can’t wait. She’s been practising like a demon. She’s quite nervous. She feels like Cheryl Cole performing on The X Factor – hopefully the judges will be as nice to her afterwards.”

Strictly shifts from its London base to the Blackpool Tower this weekend, and Penny and Rod will be flying into town by private jet from their home in the US. However, the glitzy pair won’t be spending the night in a £40 B&B on the seafront.

Alarmed at the prospect of having to bunk up in the Tower’s cosy dressing room with the likes of Ricky Groves and Phil Tufnell, they’re set to check in to a swanky hotel. “Penny’s not slumming it like the others,” tittered the insider. “She is going back in style.”

Penny appeared on the ballroom show in 2007 and made it to week six before her ropey salsa saw her eliminated with partner Ian Waite. Let’s hope Saturday night’s cha-cha-cha goes down a little better with the public.
